In the negative electrode material sector, shipments reached 2.08 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 26%
BTR Chairman He Xueqin pointed out that, according to the latest data released by GGII (GGII, a professional domestic research institute for lithium batteries), China's lithium battery industry continued to maintain rapid growth in 2024. Especially in the negative electrode material field, the shipment volume reached 2.08 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 26%, with artificial graphite and natural graphite shipments reaching 1.81 million tons and 260,000 tons respectively. Although the overall growth rate has slowed down, the market demand remains strong due to the rapid development of new energy vehicles and energy storage, and the negative electrode material market has broad prospects.
In 2024, while the Chinese lithium-ion battery negative electrode material industry continued to expand, competition also intensified. Compared with last year, although the growth rate has slowed down, the continued development of new energy vehicles and energy storage systems remains an important factor driving the demand for negative electrode materials. Driven by artificial graphite and natural graphite materials, the market demand for negative electrode materials has significantly increased, especially in the application of high-performance batteries and fast-charging technologies, where the demand for negative electrode materials is particularly urgent. There are still many opportunities in the market. Major negative electrode material companies are making efforts in various aspects, including technological innovation, cost control, and global layout, to cope with the increasingly fierce competitive environment. For companies with leading technology and cost advantages, further improvement of market share has become possible. As a global leader in negative electrode materials, BTR, with its strong technological R&D and green development strategy, steadily improves its market position.
BTR Chairman He Xueqin said that as an industry leader, BTR continues to increase R&D investment, especially in the fields of fast-charging materials and silicon-based negative electrode materials. The breakthrough in fast-charging material R&D enables batteries to achieve fast charging within 10 minutes, while low-temperature performance has also been significantly improved. This technology plays a crucial role in improving battery usability and extending battery life.
With the further deepening of global layout, BTR has made significant progress in the expansion of overseas markets. On August 7, 2024, the first phase (80,000 tons per year) of BTR's 160,000-ton negative electrode material project invested and constructed in Indonesia officially went into production, marking the first time that the domestic negative electrode material industry has established a production base overseas. In addition, the company is also investing in the construction of a 50,000-ton annual lithium battery cathode material project in Morocco, and plans to further deploy 60,000 tons of negative electrode material capacity in the region.
BTR's overseas layout not only lays the foundation for its global market expansion but also accelerates the construction of the global supply chain, ensuring the company's competitiveness in the global new energy vehicle market. With the continuous expansion of production capacity, BTR is expected to occupy a larger market share globally and enhance its international brand influence.
In 2024, the Chinese lithium-ion battery negative electrode material market showed strong growth potential, and BTR, with its globalization strategy, technological innovation, and cost control, continues to occupy a leading position in the industry. With the continuous expansion of market demand for new energy vehicles and energy storage, the negative electrode material market will usher in a broader development space in the next few years.
